Thermography
I had no idea what thermography was until just about six weeks ago. I learned of it from my daughters Shauna and Lindsay who are both looking into the possibility of using thermography as part of their breast cancer prevention plan. Since I have learned about thermography, I have asked many women what they know about it. Surprisingly, most are totally unfamiliar with it. In short, it is an effective alternative to mammograms that insurance won’t pay for and doctors won’t use. Thermography is thermal imaging for the breast that can locate potentially cancerous cells long before they develop into a tumor. Sometimes as much as seven years before a mammogram would find the tumor. So why are so many people unaware of thermography and the benefits it presents?I was recently at a breast cancer education day and asked the doctor on the panel about thermography. He virtually discounted it as some kind of voodoo and said it had virtually no value in the treatment of breast cancer. This woman thinks otherwise.
I wonder how many women even know about thermography and how many would opt for it if given a chance. It sounds to me like a much better prevention than a mammogram. Getting back to my awareness argument, what would happen if more women were aware of thermography and it’s benefits? What if doctors had a better understanding of the preventive value of this procedure and learned how to use it to prevent instead of treat breast cancer.

“Today, women are encouraged to get a mammogram, so they can find their breast cancer as early as possible. With thermography as your regular screening tool, it’s likely that you would have the opportunity to make adjustments to your diet, beliefs and lifestyle to transform your cells before they became cancerous. Talk about true prevention.”
Surprisingly, most of the traditional medical community as well as the FDA, does not approve of thermography. Here is the official FDA Safety Communication on thermography.
My position is this: Why not? If there is technology available that can provide such early detection, what is the harm in using it? I don’t understand what doctors are so afraid of. Could it be that if more breast cancer is actually prevented, there would ultimately be less patients (customers) for their services? Or for the drug companies, less people to use their products? I don’t really want to think that way. It’s not healthy.
